Songs and Scenes: Sunday, November 10, 2013

Songs and Scenes is a weekly blog review of songs, readings and prayers featured in The Crossing’s Sunday morning liturgy. Our good friend, Scott Myers, provided photos to offer a glimpse into life as a part of The Crossing. You’ll also find links in the song titles that will allow you to purchase recorded versions of the songs when available.

1. All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name – Words by Edward Perronet (1780), Music: Coronation, Oliver Holden (1783), Chorus by Judah Groveman (based on a arrangement by Jaron and Katherine Kamon)

All hail the power of Jesus’ Name!
Let angels prostrate fall;
Bring forth the royal diadem,
and crown Him Lord of all.
Bring forth the royal diadem,
and crown Him Lord of all.

2. Confession: Psalm 31:9-10

Be merciful to me, LORD, for I am in distress;
my eyes grow weak with sorrow,
my soul and body with grief.
My life is consumed by anguish
and my years by groaning;
my strength fails because of my affliction,
and my bones grow weak.

3. Since I Am So Sick – by Don Chafer

Since I am so sick, since I am in need,
since I have no healing within me,
Oh, my God, be mindful of me,
You are my help and my Redeemer.

Surely those who wait on You
will never be ashamed.
All of those who call on You
will know the faithfulness of Your name.

4. Assurance: Romans 5:8, John 3:16-17

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this; while we we’re still sinners, Christ died for us.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

5. Here is Love – Words by William Rees (19th century); Music by Robert Lowry (1876); Additional chorus by Matt Redman

Here is love, vast as the ocean,
loving-kindness as the flood,
when the Prince of Life, our Ransom,
shed for us His precious blood.
Who His love will not remember?
Who can cease to sing His praise?
He can never be forgotten
throughout Heav’n’s eternal days.

6. Gloria by Chad Gardner

O taste and see that the Lord is good;
all you people, all you saints
all you children of the king.
Gloria!, Gloria!, Gloria!, Gloria!
