Songs and Scenes is a weekly blog review of songs, readings and prayers featured in The Crossing’s Sunday morning liturgy. You’ll find links in the song titles that will allow you to purchase recorded versions of the songs when available. This week’s liturgy review features photos by Lana Eklund.

1. Come Ye Sinners – Words: Joseph Hart (1759), Music: Christine Cover and Greg Weile

Come, ye sinners, poor and needy,
Weak and wounded, sick and sore;
Jesus ready stands to save you,
Full of pity, love and power.

On the bloody Cross behold Him,
Sinner, will this not suffice,
Lo! the incarnate God ascended,
Pleads His perfect sacrifice.

2. Invitation to the Thirsty: Isaiah 55:1, 3; Psalm 107:8-9

“Come, all you who are thirsty,
come to the waters;
and you who have no money,
come, buy and eat!
Give ear and come to me;
listen, that you may live.”

Let us give thanks to the LORD
for his unfailing love
and his wonderful deeds for mankind,
for he satisfies the thirsty
and fills the hungry with good things.

3. Love Eternal – Words: William Gadsby; Add. Words: Scott Johnson; Music: Scott Johnson, Latifah Phillips, Andrew Camp, and Kristen Camp

High beyond imagination
is the love of God to man;
far to deep for human reason,
fathom that it never can

Love eternal, Love eternal
richly dwells in the Lamb.

4. The Fount of Every Blessing: Psalm 36:5-9

Your love, LORD, reaches to the heavens,
your faithfulness to the skies.
Your righteousness is like the highest mountains,
your justice like the great deep.
You, LORD, preserve both people and animals.
How priceless is your unfailing love, O God!
We take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
We feast on the abundance of your house;
you give us drink from your river of delights.
For with you is the fountain of life;
in your light we see light.

5. Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing – Words: Robert Robinson (1758); Music: John Wyeth (1839), Arrangement: Kings Kaleidoscope

Come, Thou Fount of every blessing,
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
Sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it,
Mount of Thy redeeming love.

6. A River of Love and Mercy: Revelation 21:12, 14, 16-17

“Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me… Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life… I, Jesus… am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.”
Come! Let all who are thirsty come and take the free gift of the water of life.

7. The Morning Star – Words: Isaac Watts (18th century); additional lyrics: David A. Cover; Music: Christine Cover, Greg Wiele, & Latifah Phillips

Come all ye hungry, starving souls,
that feed upon the wind,
and vainly strive with earthly toils
to fill an empty mind.

Eternal Wisdom has prepared
a soul-reviving feast;
and bids your longing appetites
the rich provision taste.

8. Empty Me Out by Josh White, Arrangement by Liz Vice

I died with You, was buried with You
The moment I believed.
I rose with You, ascended with You
into the Heavenlies.

Lord, it’s not me,
it’s you inside of me.
Jesus, you’re all
these eyes can see.

9. Communion Song: Satisfied – words by Clara T. Williams (1875); edited by Karl Digerness (2011);
music & additional words by Latifah Phillips

Well of water, ever springing,
Bread of life so rich and free,
Untold wealth that never faileth,
My Redeemer is to me.

Hallelujah! He has found me,
the One my soul so long has craved!
Jesus satisfies my longings,
through his blood I now am saved.

10. Communion Song: Praise to the Lord – Words: Joachim Neander (1680), Music: Lobe Herren (1665), additional music by Christine Cover & Latifah Phillips

Praise to the Lord, the Almighty,
the King of creation!
O My soul, praise Him
for He is thy health and salvation!
All ye who hear, now to His temple draw near;
Praise him in glad adoration.

    The music has been so awesome for the last couple of months!! Touches my soul. Is there anyway of getting our band’s rendition of Empty Me Out to download for purchase?

  2. Scott Johnson said:

    Unfortunately, our team hasn’t recorded Empty Me Out. However, I can’t recommended Liz Vice’s version enough. The entire album is incredible.
