Songs-and-Scenes-Banner B

Songs and Scenes is a weekly blog review of songs, readings and prayers featured in The Crossing’s Sunday morning liturgy. Today’s liturgy recap features photos by Gerik Parmele. There are links in the song titles that will allow you to purchase recorded versions of the songs when available.

1. Holy, Holy, Holy – Words by Reginald Heber (1783-1826), Music: Nicaea, John B. Dykes

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee;
Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!

2. Prayer of Invocation (adapted from the Worship Sourcebook)

Almighty God, our Father,
dwelling in majesty and mystery,
renewing and restoring creation
by your eternal Spirit,
and revealing your glory
through our Lord, Jesus Christ:

Cleanse us from doubt and fear
and enable us to worship you,
with your Son and the Holy Spirit, one God,
living and reigning, now and forever.

3. Almighty God by Leslie Jordan, David Leonard, and Sandra McCracken

Almighty God,
To You all hearts are open;
You take away our sickness and our sin.
Oh Lamb of God, we gather at Your table;
In bread and wine
You have supplied our needs.

Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

4. Holy, Holy, Holy – Words by Reginald Heber (1783-1826), Music: Nicaea, John B. Dykes

Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore Thee,
Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
Cherubim and seraphim falling down before Thee,
Who was, and is, and evermore shall be.

5. Scripture Reading: Based on Revelation 4:1-4

Leader: Grace and peace to you from the one who is, who always was, and who is still to come;
from the sevenfold Spirit before his throne; and from Jesus Christ.

All: He is the faithful witness to these things, the first to rise from the dead, and the ruler of all the kings of the world.

Leader: All glory to him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by shedding his blood for us.

All: He has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father—to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen.

6. Holy (Jesus, You Are) by Jason Ingram, Matt Redman, Jonas Myrin

What heart could hold the weight of Your love
And know the heights of Your great worth
What eyes could look on Your glorious face,
shining like the sun?
Who is like You, God?

You are holy, holy, holy
God most high and God most worthy.
You are holy, holy, holy
Jesus, You are. Jesus, You are.

7. Gloria Patri

Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning is now and shall be for ever.

8. Communion Song: Come Behold the Wondrous Mystery by Matt Papa, Matt Boswell, and Michael Bleeker

Come behold the wondrous mystery
Slain by death the God of life
But no grave could e’er restrain Him
Praise the Lord; He is alive!

What a foretaste of deliverance
How unwavering our hope
Christ in power resurrected
As we will be when he comes

9. Communion Song: We Will Feast in the House of Zion by Sandra McCracken and Joshua Moore

We will feast in the house of Zion
We will sing with our hearts restored
He has done great things, we will say together
We will feast and weep no more

Every vow we’ve broken and betrayed
You are the Faithful one
And from the garden to the grave
Bind us together, bring shalom.
