Songs and Scenes Banner

Songs and Scenes is a weekly blog review of songs, readings and prayers featured in The Crossing’s Sunday morning liturgy. Today’s liturgy recap features photos by Gerik Parmele. There are links in the song titles that will allow you to purchase recorded versions of the songs when available.

1. Day of Christ by Andrew Camp, Christine Cover, David A. Cover, & Andrew Luley

Wading through the darkened tide,
waiting for this curse to die;
Day of Christ, arise on us,
illuminate Your promise.

We wait, we watch, we long for Your kingdom!
We wait, we watch, we long for You, Jesus.

2. Call to Worship: Psalm 33:1, 20-22, 3

Leader: Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous;

All: It is fitting for the upright to praise him.

We wait in hope for the LORD;
he is our help and our shield.
In him our hearts rejoice,
for we trust in his holy name.

Sing to him a new song;
play skillfully, and shout for joy.

3. The War is Won (Jesus Once For Sinner’s Slain) – Words: Joseph Hart, Additional Lyrics: Patrick Miller and David A. Cover, Music: The Crossing Music

Jesus once for sinners slain,
from the dead is raised again.
Cheerful let us raise our voice;
we have reason to rejoice.

The war is won, though battles rage.
Our risen King will end this age.
Until that day, stand in hope
of love that will forever flow.

4. Scripture Reading: Psalm 90:13 & 13:5-6

All: Return, O LORD!
How long must we wait?

But we trust in your unfailing love;
our hearts rejoice in your salvation.
We will sing of the LORD’s praise,
for he has been good to us.

20150712-_0268-GP5. Praise to the Lord, the Almighty – Words: Joachim Neander (1680), Music: Lobe Herren (1665), Arrangement and chorus: The Crossing Music

Praise to the Lord, the Almighty,
the King of creation!
O My soul, praise Him
for He is thy health and salvation!
All ye who hear, now to His temple draw near;
Praise him in glad adoration.

6. Scripture Reading: Romans 12:9

Leader: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

All: Therefore we will boast all the more gladly
about our weaknesses,
so that Christ’s power may rest on us.

7. Morning Star – Words: Isaac Watts (18th century); additional lyrics: David A. Cover; Music: Christine Cover, Greg Wiele, & Latifah Phillips

Come all ye hungry, starving souls,
that feed upon the wind,
and vainly strive with earthly toils
to fill an empty mind.
Eternal Wisdom has prepared
a soul-reviving feast;
and bids your longing appetites
the rich provision taste.

The Morning Star shines brightly forth
in bursting light that fills the earth
like April rain to wash away
the darkened stain.

8. Scripture Reading: Revelation 22:1-5, 12, 14, 16-17

Leader: Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city.

No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face… and they will reign for ever and ever.

(Jesus says to us) “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me… Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city.

All: Let the one who is thirsty come;
and let the one who wishes
take the free gift of the water of life.

Leader: “I, Jesus, …am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star. I am coming soon.”

All: Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.

9. It is Finished by Dustin Kensrue

There’s no sacrifice to offer,
there’s no penance to complete;
Freely drink of living water,
without money come and feast.

It is finished! He has done it!
let your weary heart rejoice.
Our redemption is accomplished
raise a shout with ragged voice.

10. All Must Be Well – Words by Mary Bowley Peters (1847), Music: Matthew Smith.

Though we pass through tribulation,
all will be well.
Ours is such a full salvation,
all is well.
Happy still in God confiding,
fruitful if in Christ abiding,
steadfast through the Spirit’s guiding;
All must be well.
