Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing – Words: Robert Robinson (1758), Music: John Wyeth (1813), Arrangement by Sufjan Stevens

Here I raise my Ebenezer
Here there by Thy great help I’ve come
And I hope, by Thy good pleasure
Safely to arrive at home
Jesus sought me when a stranger
Wandering from the fold of God
He, to rescue me from danger
Interposed His precious blood.

Psalm 19:1-4a

The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they reveal knowledge.
They have no speech, they use no words;
no sound is heard from them.
Yet their voice[b] goes out into all the earth,
their words to the ends of the world.

I Sing the Mighty Power of God – Words: Isaac Watts (1715), Music and Additional Chorus: Scott Johnson, Keith Scherer, Andrew Camp, Steve Hendershot and Andrew Luley

I sing the mighty power of God,
that made the mountains rise,
That spread the flowing seas abroad,
and built the lofty skies.
I sing the wisdom that ordained
the sun to rule the day;
The moon shines full at God’s command,
and all the stars obey.

David read from Psalm 19:7-13 which led us to reflect on our sin, both known and unknown, in silent confession.

The law of the LORD is perfect,
refreshing the soul.
The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy,
making wise the simple.
The precepts of the LORD are right,
giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the LORD are radiant,
giving light to the eyes.
The fear of the LORD is pure,
enduring forever.
The decrees of the LORD are firm,
and all of them are righteous.

They are more precious than gold,
than much pure gold;
they are sweeter than honey,
than honey from the honeycomb.
By them your servant is warned;
in keeping them there is great reward.
But who can discern their own errors?
Forgive my hidden faults.
Keep your servant also from willful sins;
may they not rule over me.
Then I will be blameless,
innocent of great transgression.

O Help My Unbelief – Words: Isaac Watts (1707), Music: Justin Smith (2007)

How sad our state by nature is!
our sin, how deep it stains!
and Satan binds our captive minds
Fast in his slavish chains.
But there’s a voice of sov’reign grace,
sounds from the sacred word:
“O, ye despairing sinners come,
and trust upon the Lord.”

We also prayed through God All-Sufficient, a 16th century prayer from The Valley of Vision. This compendium of Puritan devotions is an excellent resource for prayer and meditation and is available in The Crossing’s bookstore.

All thy lovingkindness is in thy Son,
I bring him to thee in the arms of faith,
I urge his saving Name as the One who died for me.
I plead his blood to pay my debts of wrong.
Accept his worthiness for my unworthiness…
his holy life for my unchaste ways,
his righteousness for my dead works,
his death for my life.

Jesus Messiah by Chris Tomlin, Daniel Carson, Ed Cash, Jesse Reeves

He became sin, who knew no sin;
that we might become His righteousness;
He humbled Himself, and carried the cross.
Love so amazing, love so amazing…
Jesus Messiah, Lord of all

Creator King by Mary Maclean

You, who made the valleys and the skies,
displayed Your love on far horizons
and before my eyes,
You who lit the stars
and set the dawn in time,
called them all by name
and now You whisper mine.
You’re my Creator King.
