Songs and Scenes is a weekly blog review of songs, readings and prayers featured in The Crossing’s Sunday services. This week, Scott Myers graciously provided photos to give a taste of sunday morning life at The Crossing. You’ll also find links in the song titles that will allow you to purchase recorded versions of the songs where available.

David invited us into worship with a reading from Psalm 11:4-7.

The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord is on his heavenly throne.
?He observes everyone on earth; his eyes examine them.
The Lord examines the righteous, but the wicked, those who love violence, he hates with a passion.
On the wicked he will rain fiery coals and burning sulfur; a scorching wind will be their lot.
For the Lord is righteous, he loves justice; the upright will see his face.

Holy, Holy, Holy (Lord, God Almighty) – Words: Reginald Heber (1826), Music: Nicaea, John B. Dykes (1861)

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
All Thy works shall praise Thy Name,
in earth, and sky, and sea;
Holy, holy, holy; merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessèd Trinity!

Wandering Soul by David A. Cover and Christine Cover

There’s nothing I can do
to take away the shame that I feel.
There’s nothing I can do

to shed the burdens carried with me.
I’m a sinner with a wand’ring soul.

But I felt the weight lift off of me
when I heard a Voice call out to me,
“It is done. It is finished.

I AM what you have been seeking.”

We were invited into a time of prayer with a reading from Psalm 6:1-3a, 4 which calls us to turn to the Lord in repentance and in need.

Lord, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath.
Have mercy on me, Lord, for I am faint;
heal me, Lord, for my bones are in agony.?
My soul is in deep anguish…
Turn, Lord, and deliver me;
save me because of your unfailing love.

It’s You by Dave Wilton and Asher Seevnick

Son of man reach out your hand and touch my weary heart.
Son of man reach out your hand and heal my failing heart.
It’s you that I need.
It’s you that I need.

Our worship continued with a reading from Psalm 6:9 and Luke 2:15.

The Lord has heard my cry for mercy; the Lord accepts my prayer.

“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

Gloria by Chad Gardner

In an interview about his song, “Gloria,” Chad Gardner said, “Christ delivers us, making us unashamed and radiant. When we really see who Christ is, when we actually taste his goodness and are overwhelmed, how else could we respond but with a resounding “Gloria!”

O taste and see that the Lord is good;
all you people, all you saints
all you children of the king.

Gloria!, Gloria!, Gloria!, Gloria!

We enjoyed the sacrament of communion as we sang the following songs.

Jesus Messiah by Chris Tomlin, Daniel Carson, Ed Cash, Jesse Reeves

His body the bread,His blood the wine,
Broken and poured out, all for love.
The whole earth trembled and the veil was torn.
Love so amazing, love so amazing.

Jesus, Messiah, Name above all names,
Blessed Redeemer, Emmanuel.
The Rescue for sinners. The Ransom from heaven.
Jesus Messiah, Lord of all.

O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus – Words: Samuel Francis (1834-1925), Music: Christine Cover and Greg Weile, Arrangement: The Crossing Music

O the deep, deep love of Jesus,
vast, unmeasured, boundless, free!
Rolling as a mighty ocean
in its fullness over me!
Underneath me, all around me,
is the current of Thy love
Leading onward, leading homeward
to Thy glorious rest above!

Holy (Jesus, You Are) by Jason Ingram, Matt Redman, Jonas Myrin

Your name alone has power to raise us.
Your light will shine when all else fades.
Our eyes will look on Your glorious face,
shining like the sun.

You are holy, holy, holy
God most high and God most worthy.
You are holy, holy, holy
Jesus, You are. Jesus, You are.
