Songs and Scenes is a weekly blog review of songs, readings and prayers featured in The Crossing’s Sunday services. This week, Scott Myers graciously provided photos to give a taste of sunday morning life at The Crossing. You’ll also find links in the song titles that will allow you to purchase recorded versions of the songs where available.

Doxology – Words: Thomas Ken (1674), Music: Old 100th, Genevan Psalter (1551)

Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

All Creatures of Our God and KingWords by Francis of Assisi (circa 1225), Arrangement by Andrew Camp

All creatures of our God and King
Lift up your voice and with us sing,
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Thou burning sun with golden beam,
Thou silver moon with softer gleam!
O praise Him! O praise Him!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Behold Our God by Jonathan Baird, Meghan Baird and Stephen Altrogge

Who has held the oceans in His hands?
Who has numbered every grain of sand?
Kings and nations tremble at His voice.
All creation rises to rejoice.

Behold our God, seated on His throne.
Come, let us adore Him.
Behold our King—nothing can compare.
come, let us adore Him

We read Isaiah 55:1-2 and heard God’s invitation to find the fulfillment of our soul’s deepest longings in his care.

Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters;
and you who have no money, come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost.
Why spend money on what is not bread,
and your labor on what does not satisfy?
Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good,
and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.

Our call to confession was based on the following quote from The Weight of Glory by C.S. Lewis.

“We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.”

So, we spent a few minutes in confession asking the Spirit to reveal the mud pies of our hearts, the idols that get in the way of finding true and lasting satisfaction in all God is for us in Christ.

Satisfied – Words: Clara T. Williams (1875), Music: Karl Digerness (1997), Arrangement: The Crossing Music

Feeding on the filth around me,
Till my strength was almost gone,
Longed my soul for something better,
Only still to hunger on.

Hallelujah! He has found me,
the One my soul so long has craved!
Jesus satisfies all my longings,
through his blood I now am saved.

A day is coming where God will share with us the joys of heaven and we will be fully satisfied in him for all eternity. We remembered this resurrection promise, that is ours Jesus Christ, with this prayer based on Psalm 16 from The Open Sourcebook.

Lord Jesus,

You alone are my portion, you alone are my cup of blessing.
You alone make my life secure.
The land you have given me is a pleasant land.
indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.

So I rejoice and am glad.
Even my body has hope,
because you will not leave me in the grave.
You will not let your holy one rot.
You will teach me how to live a holy life.
Being with you will fill me with joy;
at your right hand I will find pleasure forever.

I Will Rise by Chris Tomlin, Louie Giglio, Jesse Reeves and Matt Maher

Jesus has overcome
and the grave is overwhelmed
The victory is won
He is risen from the dead.
I will rise when He calls my name
No more sorrow, no more pain.
I will rise on eagle’s wings,
before my God fall on my knees and rise.

Holy (Jesus, You Are) by Jason Ingram, Matt Redman, Jonas Myrin

Your name alone has power to raise us.
Your light will shine when all else fades.
Our eyes will look on Your glorious face,
shining like the sun. Who is like you God?

You are holy, holy, holy
God most high and God most worthy.
You are holy, holy, holy
Jesus, You are. Jesus, You are.

The Crossing also held a baptism service this morning. Here are some photo highlights of the service by Scott Myers.
