Songs and Scenes is a weekly blog review of the songs and liturgy featured in The Crossing’s Sunday services. This week’s service was planned and lead by David Cover. Scott Myers provided photos to give a glimpse into Sunday morning life at The Crossing. You’ll also find links in the song titles that will allow you to purchase recorded versions of the songs where available.

Prayer of the Lowly by Andrew Camp, Christine Cover and David A. Cover

Break my pride to pieces and scatter it to the wind.
And put in me humility to rest in Your ways.
For You, help live to You, help say,
“Holy, holy is the Lord, God Almighty;
Worthy, worthy is the King who died for me!”

We read Psalm 8:1, 3-9.

Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory
in the heavens.

When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?
You have made them a little lower than the angels
and crowned them with glory and honor.
You made them rulers over the works of your hands;
you put everything under their feet:
all flocks and herds,
and the animals of the wild,
the birds in the sky,
and the fish in the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.
Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

All Creatures of Our God and KingWords by Francis of Assisi (circa 1225), Arrangement by Andrew Camp

All creatures of our God and King
Lift up your voice and with us sing,
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Thou burning sun with golden beam,
Thou silver moon with softer gleam!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Our call to confession was Isaiah 53:6.

We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
each of us has turned to our own way;?
and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

I Fear the Lord by David A. Cover, Patrick K. Miller and Christine Cover

The beginning of strength,
in the fold of His might!
When I’m desperate and tried,
You’re the source of my life!

You are my God!
Help me walk in your wisdom’s way.
You are my God!
Father, teach my heart to obey.

We read Psalm 24:4-5, 8-9, 14, 20-21 as prayer of illumination before the message.

In you, Lord my God,
I put my trust.

Show me your ways, Lord,
teach me your paths.
Guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long.

Good and upright is the Lord;
therefore he instructs sinners in his ways.
9 He guides the humble in what is right
and teaches them his way.

The Lord confides in those who fear him;
he makes his covenant known to them.

Guard my life and rescue me;
do not let me be put to shame,
for I take refuge in you.
May integrity and uprightness protect me,
because my hope, Lord, is in you.

Since I Am So Sick – Words: Don Chafer, New Music: Alyssa Kelly

Since I am so sick, since I am in need,
since I have no healing within me,
Oh, my God, be mindful of me,
You are my help and my Redeemer.

Surely those who wait on You
will never be ashamed.
All of those who call on You
will know the faithfulness of Your name.

Draw Near by David A. Cover

Draw near to Me My child,
come rest in My mercy.
Draw near to Me, My child,
and know I AM with you.
