This week’s Songs and Scenes features photos graciously provided by Gerik Parmele. The service was planned and led by guest leader Rhett Johnson. You’ll find links in the song titles that will allow you to purchase recorded versions of the songs where available.
One Redeemer by David A. Cover, Christine Cover and Patrick K. Miller (recording to be released this fall on a forthcoming album by The Crossing Music)
From start to end,
You are the “Amen!”
to Your promises,
Jesus, my soul’s Savior,
the great story’s One Redeemer.
His Loving-Kindness – Words: Samuel Medley (1782), Additional Words: David A. Cover, Music: Christine Cover and David A. Cover (recording to be released this fall on a forthcoming album by The Crossing Music)
Though the melody is new, His Loving-Kindness was originally penned by Samuel Medley in 1782 as an expression of thanksgiving to God. Medley wrote many, many hymns and he was always careful to say that his main purpose in songwriting was to “comfort Christians and glorify Christ.” (Amazing Grace: 366 Inspiring Hymn Stories for Daily Devotions, p. 333, Kenneth W. Osbeck)
Awake my soul, in joyful praise,
sing of my great Redeemer’s ways:
He justly claims a song from me,
“His loving kindness set me free!”
Only Your Blood by Neil Robins (adpated from a Hymn by Isaac Watts) based on the Sojourn Music arrangement
All this guilt disturbs my peace I find no release.
Who will save me from my crime; I’m helpless.
Behold I fall before Your face in need of grace.
So speak to me in a gentle voice for in Your mercies I rejoice.
For only Your blood is enough to cover my sin.
Christ is Risen by Matt Maher and Mia Fieldes
Let no one caught in sin remain inside the lie of inward shame,
but fix our eyes upon the cross,
and run to Him who showed great love
and bled for us, freely You’ve bled for us.
I Sing the Mighty Power of God – Words: Isaac Watts (1715), Music and Additional Chorus: Scott Johnson, Keith Scherer, Andrew Camp, Steve Hendershot and Andrew Luley
There’s not a plant or flow’r below,
but makes Thy glories known,
and clouds arise, and tempest blow,
by order from Thy throne;
While all that borrows life from Thee
is ever in Thy care;
And ev’ry where that we can be
Thou, God are present there.
