I think that I first came across the idea of racial reconciliation within churches through the Promise Keeper movement back in the nineties. I have to confess that while I’ve always thought it was a good idea (after all who can be against reconciliation on any level), I’ve never felt as if I needed to make that issue the main thrust of my life or ministry.
Although that’s still the case, I have been moved to think more deeply about race issues lately. Like most things in my life, this was prompted by reading: the first chapter in Phillip Yancey’s Soul Survivor, which led me to The Autobiography of Martin Luther King Jr. and Bearing the Cross: Martin Luther King Jr. and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.
In light of all this, I found the following two ABC videos VERY interesting. They are both 6 minutes long and if you don’t have time for both, just watch the first one.
Part 1
Part 2
How do you explain the different reactions? Have you ever experienced something similar?
