Here I Am to Worship by Tim Hughes
Here I Am to Worship is a well-loved song at The Crossing. The chorus is, in the words of songwriter Tim Hughes, “a response to Jesus giving up his throne in Heaven to walk upon the earth and ultimately to die upon a cross,”
Here I am to worship,
here I am to bow down,
here I am to say that you’re my God.
You’re altogether lovely,
altogether worthy,
altogether wonderful to me.
O Come and Mourn With Me Awhile – words by Frederick Faber (1814-1863), Music by Eric Ashley
The Gospel Song by Drew Jones and Bob Kauflin
These two songs focused our eyes on the cross of Christ, reminding us of the greatness of our sin and the even greater love that covers it because of his sacrifice.
O love God! O sin of man!
In this dread act Your strength is tried;
And victory remains with love;
Jesus our Lord is crucified!
Only Your Blood by Neil Robins (adpated from a Hymn by Isaac Watts)
We confessed our sin as we read The Precious Blood (a prayer from The Valley of Vision) and acknowledged that, apart from Christ, we are unable to remove the stain of sin from our lives as we sang this song from Sojourn Community Church.
All this guilt disturbs my peace I find no release.
Who will save me from my crime; I’m helpless.
Behold I fall before Your face in need of grace.
So speak to me in a gentle voice for in Your mercies I rejoice.
For only Your blood is enough to cover my sin.
We heard the assurance of God’s forgiveness from Isaiah 53:1, 4-6 and the promise of new life in Christ’s death resurrection from 2 Corinthians 5:17-18.
Medley: Christ is Risen by Matt Maher and Mia Fieldes
Medley: I Will Rise by Chris Tomlin, Louie Giglio, Jesse Reeves & Matt Maher
This morning we introduced the song Christ is Risen. The song first grabbed my attention when I heard the bridge that quotes 1 Corinthians 15:55. In it we boldly express our confidence in our strong Deliverer and Risen King, Jesus Christ, who has triumphed over sin and death.
O death, where is your sting?
O hell, where is your victory?
O church, come stand in the light;
Our God is not dead He’s alive,
He’s alive!
Jesus, All For Jesus by Robin Mark and Jennifer Atkinson
After Keith led us through a prayer written by Deitrich Bonhoeffer, we sang this simple yet moving prayer of devotion to Christ.
Jesus, all for Jesus,
All I am and have and ever hope to be.
All of my ambitions, hopes and plans
I surrender these into Your hands.
For it’s only in Your will that I am free.
