This week’s music set-list review features photos by Gerik Parmele. You’ll find links in the song titles that will allow you to purchase versions of the songs as recorded by the original artists.

Grace Undeserved by Andrew Camp, Christine Cover and David Cover

Our call to worship was a song that expressed a humble dependence on God and was written by members of The Crossing’s music team.

Son of God who came to save
a life that’s led without faith,
give me grace, that’s undeserved
help me live by your word.
Help me live by your word.

All Creatures of Our God and King
– Words by Francis of Assisi (circa 1225)

We started our service with this enduring call for all created things to join together in worship to magnify their Creator.

Let all things their Creator bless,
and worship Him in humbleness,
O praise Him! Alleluia!

Kingdom Days by Randall Goodgame

The book of Revelation gives us a picture of the endless song of the heaven, worshiping God for the beauty of His holiness. Kingdom Days anticipates that song and offers us an opportunity to join the worship that is happening even now.

Holy, holy, holy Lord,
be Thy glorious name adored.
Lord, Thy mercies never fail.
Hail, my Savior Jesus, hail.

David then guided us through a reflection on 1 Corinthians 2:9.

Open the Eyes of My Heart by Paul Baloche

Open the Eyes of My Heart is based Ephesians 1:18-21. The song lifts up Paul’s prayer for the church, asking God to give us “the spirit of wisdom and revelation” to know, more and more, “his incomparably great power for those who believe.”

Open the eyes of my heart, Lord
Open the eyes of my heart.
I want to see You, I want to see You.

Awakening by Chris Tomlin and Reuben Morgan

Awakening continued our prayer for spiritual revival. I like how the song recognizes that it is God himself who gives us the desire for his perfect will to be manifest in our lives and this world.

For You and You alone awake my soul;
Awake my soul and sing.
For the world You love Your will be done;
Let Your will be done in me.

Dave concluded his message by guiding us through a meditation on Psalm 23.

The Lord Is by Pat Sczebel and Bob Kauflin

We sang of God’s sovereign provision and care in this song based on Psalm 23. Songs like The Lord Is, help us to commit to memory the promises of scripture and, as a result, can an encourage us during difficult seasons in life.

You’re with me through every dark valley.
There’s nothing that I have to fear.
You are there to comfort me again and again,
protecting me, assuring me You’re near.

The Big God Story by David and Molly Cover

The Big God Story is the theme for Crossing Kids this fall. This song celebrates that our God has a Big Story, He is the ultimate Hero, and we are a part of that story. It was extra fun to sing this song because Crossing Kids helped lead us in worship. You can listen to The Big God Story and discover how to be a part of Crossing Kids here.

I’m a part of the Big God Story
I’ll raise my hands and give Him glory
by Jesus death I’m forever saved
now I’m living the story today.
