Middle School Football Team’s Life Changing Play

A must see video went viral after appearing on CBS news.

A Few Thoughts…

1. There’s plenty of bad news in the sports world so this story is a good reminder that sports really can (and does) build character.

2. Toward the end of the story one of the kids says, “I went from being someone that cared mostly about myself, to someone who cared about everyone.” I want that kind of transformation in my life.

3. I love that these kids did all this by themselves. The coaches didn’t know about their plan. The parents didn’t suggest this or encourage them to do it. 13 year old boys came up with the idea and made it happen without any adult supervision.

This might come as a surprise to many parents, teachers, coaches, and other adults who work with kids this age because too often we lower our expectations of what pre-teens and even teenagers are capable of. Some times what kids need is adults to get out of their way. See Do Hard Things: A Teenage Rebellion Against Low Expectations.
